Hosting the event for the third time
The UAE dazzles the world by hosting the 1998 and

2005 championships in Dubai

The UAE’s organization of the World Endurance Championship 2022 in Butheeb is
considered the third, as the country has previously organized the Endurance World
Cup twice during 1998 and 2005 in Dubai International Endurance City. The sev-
enth edition of the championship was organized in December 1998, which set a
record for the number of participants, of 162 male and female riders, it was
recorded in the Guinness Record book of World Records at that time as the organiz-
er of the largest equestrian tournament in the world in 1998.

This hosting represented a major turning point in the history of this sport, which
moved it to broader horizons of quality and excellence in all organizational and
technical aspects, and recorded a technological precedent in the history of this
sport, through the use of modern technology and computers in managing the tour-
nament.

The New Zealand team won the first place, while the American team won the
second place, and the Australian team succeeded in recording its strong presence
and winning the bronze medal, and on the individual level, the veteran American
jockey Villari Knafi won the gold medal.
The UAE hosted the tournament for the second time in January 2005, and the
country's success in organizing the seventh tournament in 1998 was a major
reason for hosting the tenth tournament.
