Maria and Joma… the golden couple

The Spanish team participating in the World Championships in Butheeb

includes both the veteran couple, Maria Alvarez Ponton, who won the

World Cup titles twice in 2008 and 2010, and her husband, Joma Ponte

Dash, the holder of the 2016 World Championship title, and the captain

of the Spanish team for the teams’ championship twice.

The couple worked for a long time in the Emirates, before moving to

Spain, and establishing a stable in Barcelona through which they partici-

pate in European races, but Ponti still comes to Dubai regularly during

the UAE season. Despite their long experience in the UAE races, both

always confirm that the competition of the Emirates riders is difficult

because the UAE rides are characterized with the speed and high quality

of the horses.
